Relationships and Communities (COM 395)

First, you don't have to take this exam. You can accept the grade you would have from your other assignments up to now. If you take the exam, the result will be averaged in. As a result it can either raise or lower your grade.

Second, it is due by 10:30am on Wednesday, December 18.

Answer all of the following questions:
  1. How does the following model of communication similar to, and different from, the Interactive and transactive models of communication? How might the differences matter given what we discussed in the course?
  2. Discuss the stages of relational escalation and de-escalation. How does our use of media change as relationships grow and fade?
  3. Discuss the relationship of self-disclosure, trust, commitment, and investment to each other and to the growth of relationships? How might the same concepts apply to the growth of communities?
  4. How can we plan a meeting to encourage dialogue?
  5. How does emotion contribute to the formation and maintenence of communities?
